The Kitesurfing Armada team are pleased to announce exciting plans for the first ever South African Kitesurfing Armada to be hosted in Cape Town in February 2016. Following the success of events in Hayling Island and Tarifa, the interest among countries to host the Kitesurfing Armada is high, and Cape Town will provide the perfect destination for the event.

In partnership with HQ Africa and the Founders Kite Club, the Kitesurfing Armada team plan to announce the event details in Cape Town in January 2015 allowing for sufficient time to prepare for an attempt to be made on the Guinness World Record the following season.

Famous for its spectacular beauty, climate, culture and reliable wind conditions, Cape Town is a popular destination for a large number of kitesurfers and kitesurfing enthusiasts who flock there each season, during January & February each year. With other high profile events such as the Red Bull King of the Air taking place around the same time, the team hopes the Kitesurfing Armada will be another positive addition to the vibrant kitesurfing scene.

Dan Charlish, Director of the Kitesurfing Armada, said, ‘It will be an amazing experience to run a Kitesurfing Armada in Cape Town. The place is the epicentre of kiting at that time, and the chance to get hundreds of kitesurfers all riding together to get the Guinness World Record, with Table Mountain as a backdrop, is an amazing opportunity.  With the partners we have in Cape Town I’m sure we can deliver an awesome event.’

Catherine Lückhoff, CEO of HQ Africa:  It is such a privilege to be hosting the Kitesurfing Armada in Cape Town. We can’t think of a more spectacular backdrop for an event of this magnitude and look forward to breaking both the World Record and the amount of funds raised through the teams’ joint efforts. This is such a unique opportunity for the kite surfing community to do good while having fun and we really want to encourage everyone to join in.”

As always, The Kitesurfing Armada will also be focused on fundraising for charity – with the Kitesurfing Armada Trust distributing 100% of funds raised to a range of causes supporting disadvantaged young people and the rescue services, including supporting South African charities selected by the local organisers.

Mario Steinbuch, Managing Director of Founders Kite Club, said: ‘The Armada has been a strong partner for us from the start. We are very happy to be part of this amazing event and will do everything in our powers to set a new World Record and get the amount of funds raised through the roof. Let’s do this!’
